Cuff of the Day form May 29. Berliner Day

I plan to suspend my Cuff of the Day postings at the end of May.   We have gone through most topics and people are
getting busier.  But I encourage everyone else to start their own topics using a similar format.    I am somewhat out of ideas.

Today, by popular request, we explore Berliner handcuffs.   I don't have any to contribute, but famous collectors in Sweden and California (always get those two confused) do.

Thanks Joe. It's been fun and great to see others collections. I hope it does continue. I'll give some more thought to themes.
I do have a few Berliners but will others show theirs.

Unfortunately I've not been able to acquire a set of Berliners, so far... Therefore I can only contribute the link to Emanuel Pechnik's patent for his "Berliners".
Fun fact: According to the patent document, Pechnik was an Austro-Hungarian citizen of  and not Prussian, so the Berliners should better be named Wieners...

I just love the Berliner and I have a couple of them. I'll start with two early Berliner. Well, how to tell they are early? The hinge pins are covered with "caps" which makes the hinge pin invisible. The early Berliner are also somewhat more handcrafted than later ones.

Except from Mühlenfeld, no Berliner are marked with stampings as I know of.

Closest I can get is a McColl Replica of the Berliner. This one is set for quick release for use in escape artistry. Very cool little piece!

I was hoping Michael would show his collection. Very nice.
I have the Muhlenfeld and the Light rectangular version which I call my "Matchbox" Berliner.  I know nothing about the light version, who made them etc.
But what is the definition of Berliner? Is it any German made cuff where two arms swing into a box lock?

Wow, I didn't know there were also prisoner's belts. Very nice!

Unfortunately I have no orginal "Berliner" or Muehlenfeld. But luckily I got a very nice replica made by Ian McColl. I don't know if there are equivalences with the originals but this has a screw key. And the finish gives an impression of how the Muehlenfelds could look like as they were new, in my eyes.

A couple

STOP adding the term to anything and everything that appears like another design or not the regular design that is familiar as a prototype. Unless you have information from the original manufacturer that a sample product is the preliminary design  it should not be referred to as a prototype. This misuse of the term is just ignorant and lazy.

With all that is going on in the world, this is what is upsetting you?
Scenario;  Guy A is selling a handcuff to Guy B.  With me so far?
Guy A says to Guy B, : "here is an interesting PROTOTYPE handcuff!  Want it?"
Guy B says "OK" and gives Guy A the money.   Hope you are still able to follow.
Guy B writes down "Prototype Handcuff" in his notes.  We are almost done here.  Don't slam your fists down on the table yet.
Handcuffs are now known as "Prototype Handcuffs" in the collection until more information becomes available from reliable sources.
