Hey guys any of you Know the year of manufacturing of crockett & Kelly?

It seems that the "Crockett & Kelly" first appeared in the  late 1980's.....

The first mention of them for me - was in a Jan. 1987 ALCA Newsletter....which stated that the U.S. Defense Dept. had placed an order for a new handcuff...

...and Don Hinz was offering them (Crockett & Kelly) for $20.00.

But just WHO made the Crockett & Kellys, and WHERE and WHEN????

Numerous inquiries to fellow collectors over the years - have yielded no results.  

Someone must know.

Late 1980's ? I have saw old eBay auctions where they are described as "Vietnam cuffs", for the Military Police. Mine was described as formerly belonging to a gunner during this war. So I would say 1960s-1970s.

History
Often known as Renalde Crockett Spurs, Crockett Renalde Spurs or CR spurs, the name manufacture of the Crockett Spurs company was bought by James Renalde of the Denver Metals Foundry company in 1951.

James and his son Jim Renalde also later purchased the Kelly Bit and Spur company in 1965 making them probably the largest owner of Spur making equipment, patents and techniques in America.

Renalde were also manufacturing horse equipment such as saddlery, buckles as well as aluminum bits and spurs. The purchase of the 2 companies made the Renalde and brand stronger than ever and they became the largest maker of spurs in America after the acquisition of their 2 rival companies.

After his father James's death in 1973, Jim continued to run the business but eventually sold the company in 1979 after renaming it to Crockett & Kelly Inc but the company eventually ceased to exist after 1980.

In January 1920 Oscar Crockett (1887-1942) and his uncle W.Brice Crockett bought the bit and spur department of Shipley Saddlery and Mercantile in Kansas City, Missouri and founded Crockett Bit and Spur Company at 1624 ½ Wyoming Street. By 1927 the business was producing 5,000 pairs of spurs and Oscar bought out his uncle and became the sole owner of the company. In 1932 Oscar married Hazel Miller and both the couple and Crockett Bit and Spur Company moved near Lenexa, Kansas. In 1943 Oscar leased his farm and moved his home and his factory to Boulder, Colorado. The company grew to up to 125 employees while in Denver. Oscar died in Boulder in June 1949. Initially, Mrs. Crockett ran the Crockett Bit and Spur Company through the manager and but in 1951 the company was sold to James Renalde. In 1965 the Crockett Bit and Spur Company acquired Kelly and became Crockett-Renalde and Kelly. In 1984 the company announced the end of bit and spur production spurs and liquidated all finished goods."
