Jean-Michel Robin

Hello Joe Lauher:
I am very sorry to report that  Belgium restraint collector, and author - Jean-Michel Robin has passed away.
Mr. Robin was, of course, the author of a fantastic 4-volume set of books on handcuff & restraint collecting:
ENTRAVES, FERS, & MENOTTES   VOLUMES  # 1 - 4.
I received my Vol. #4 copy - only 2 weeks ago from Mr. Robin.
Joe - would you kindly pass the word of Mr. Robin's passing on the Handcuff Forum?

Sad to hear of Robin's passing. The collecting community has lost another great contributor.

We have lost another great researcher but his volume of works will live on.  For those of you who have not seen his published work, I highly recommend them if and when they come up for sale.  I have learned a lot from his books.

These very sad news came to me late yesterday evening from Peter Pensaert.
 
Two weeks earlier, I sent Jean-Michel and email which he never returned. I got worried and asked Peter when he heard of him. Peter told me they met in late September. Peter also gave me his phone number but I unfortunately never made the call…
 
Jean-Michel was a passionate and a very knowledgeable fellow collector. The first time we met was in 2005 when I visited Belgium in business. He invited me to his home and showed me his extensive collection. After that, we met several times at the European Conventions which he always attended. The last time I saw him was in 2014 in Münster, Germany.
 
Jean-Michel issued four great books, unfortunately only in French. Even for us, who don’t speak French, the books are great with lots of good photos. I was honored to contribute with photos and information to his second and third book and I’m proud to say two of the books have my cuffs on the cover; a Kakola and a Mühlenfeld long chain handcuffs. The latter was a set I traded with Jean-Michel in 2012, after seeing them on his table at several conventions in Antwerp.
 
Now my thoughts go to his wife Ilse and the rest of his family. Rest in peace Jean-Michel!

I'm very sorry for the family's loss. We only me a few times, but I always remembered him as a very thoughtful person and a gentleman.

He was a true gentleman, we met on several occasions and although he did not speak much English we still understood each other.
You will be missed RIP.

My God, what a so sad news....
we were in contact for a couple of months about french handcuffs and i have a part of his collection of them..... sorry i don't know what to say more...
R.I.P. Mr ROBIN, you will miss us...... all my thoughts for your family...

What a sad loss!

I met Jean-Michel Robin at several Euro-Cons and although my French does not exist that was never a problem, because his wife always helped translating. I can only agree that Jean-Michel was a real Gentleman and I am proud to have some of his pieces in my collection. I always wondered why he sold everything the last few years. Maybe he already knew that the end is near :(.
