I tried to register an account to say hello properly but for some reason the page just hung so I'm posting as a guest for now.
I saw these on eBay and wondered why they've got the extra circular link between them:

There are loads of these sorts of bog-standard cheapie cuffs for sale, but they always just have the standard double link between them - does anyone know the purpose of the extra ring on this set? I wondered if it was for attachment to a chain or something.

The ring could be used for ropes, chains or leg irons or other things that can be dreamed up.
If the cuff were of law enforcement quality, the ring may have been used to chain gang style transportation or for attaching leg irons.
I doubt that they came out of the box like that (?)
Each cuff has 4 rivets Missing....which indicates that the handcuffs were modified, post-sale.
My guess is that the original purchaser added the large chain link...for purposes as per what Mark stated above.

#4Definitely modified. Can you see the cut through the small link on the right, next to the weld. I think it would have been reasonable quality originally, considering the serial number stamped on it, the double lock and no quick release lever.

It's hard to make the game realistic these days without making them doing hours of paperwork justifying use of the cuffs.
