Tom Cruise wears Rivolier

Tom Cruise is in the news for delivering a spray on the set of filming Mission Impossible 7.  This happened in London, yet most media outlets are publishing pictures of Tom Cruise and co- star Hayley Atwell filming scenes on the streets of Rome......handcuffed together, wearing Rivolier high- security cuffs (with the 2nd lock).  Interesting.  French handcuffs used by Italian police?  Maybe the scriptwriters just like the look of the Rivoliers .

I have watched several good movies on WWll where the Germans were using British darbies, Peerless handcuffs and Tower leg irons.  It's funny when they took so much effort and expense to make everyone else as authentic as possible.

This photo is supposedly of two Red Army officers at the headquarters of the RSHA (Gestapo/ SD/ SiPo etc etc) in Berlin after the Soviets overran Berlin, in 1945.  There is quite a collection of restraints on the table, including dalbies.  I suspect as WWII wore on and the German economy wore down, the Nazi security apparatus used whatever it could get its hands on, or be made easily and cheaply.  We know what items are generally not historically accurate, but you never quite know what happens in the desperation of wartime.

I know we are talking about British Darbys being used by German forces in this blog but they certainty were fans of the design and Clejuso made many variations of the Darby.
I am not certain who made this one but it is on the rare side, even though I have 3 of them.

The nubs at the end of the key are used similar to the H&R Super except that it takes several revolutions to double lock them.

I was able to find one of these unknown West German Darby Cuffs within the last year. I had no idea how it was supposed to work. LOL! For a while, before I figured out how to double lock them, I thought this was a fake or like a quick release magician's cuff. Now that I know how it works, its not a bad cuff to have! LOL!
