Chinese Garrote or Choker

 This was used by the Chinese to strangle people. It is called a Chinese choker. 
It can be tightened one notch at a time. Houdini was able to escape from 
this one with a button hook.  Wresch  Collection.

  Once a person who has a large size collar wanted his picture taken with this on.
Trying to get it off was a bitch.

As there is a key attached, how does the lock work and where is it located?

Wow, Gordon! Such a wicked looking device! I can only imagine how...or why that would have been used. Its in amazing shape as well! Great find, thanks for sharing that with us!

  There is a keyway on the left end. The key bit grabs the bolt and then pullback.
 Kind of like a Darby when you do not have the correct key. Grab some threads and pull.
