Lyman H. Cobb

Lyman H. Cobb was born in Maine on January 13, 1860.  He died on October 19, 1917 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He had lived in Worcester, Massachusetts from 1881 through 1890,, but by 1896 had moved to Portland, Maine through at least 1903 when he was working as a machinist for the John P. Lovell Company. By 1905 he had returned to Massachusetts and living in Fitchburg. We know of him from his May 2, 1899 patent (623,984) for a handcuff which incorporated a removable lock case.  While this was the only handcuff patent issued to him, in total he received twenty (20) patents from 1897 through 1916, including patents for a rotary engine, safety razor, pistol grip, firearms and an oil tank for motorcycles.

In an obituary of his wife (Nellie A. Cobb) written on April 30, 1918, it states that Lyman H. Cobb had been an Inspector for years at the Iver Johnson works in Fitchburg, Mass.
