Tom Gross Handcuff collection at auction

Since it seems that Tom Gross was a longtime member of this forum, I thought the members would like to know that his handcuff collection is coming to auction in June at Bonhams. The collection includes approximately 300 pairs of handcuffs along with the manuscript for the second edition of his book Manacles of the World.

Is that being sold as one lot? All or nothing?

I am very dissapointed to see this "lot" being sold as one item. Youve just removed so many of us from owning anything from Tom's personal collection. Many of us were friends of his and it would have meant a lot for us to have been able to buy a piece or two from his personal belongings. Selling each cuff individually would have allowed more people the chance to own a piece of history.

Richard, you can almost bet that 295 of those cuffs will be 'moved on' at realistic prices. It just takes one brave person to bid for the lot who really wants those rare items and can recoup some money from the rest. And you'll probably know him, so don't worry too much.

Sorry, we had to offer as a single lot as we have to reach a certain threshold on each lot in our auction.

Which means what exactly? isn't an estate sale auction supposed to get the most amount of value for the client?

Don't forget to look at the real price you will pay for any item the auction house sells. There is the hammer price and then the buyers premium which is:

"The term “purchase price” means the aggregate of (a) the bid price, (b) a PREMIUM retained by us and payable by the buyer (the “buyer’s premium”), EQUAL TO 27.5% OF THE FIRST $12,500 OF THE BID PRICE, PLUS 25% OF THE AMOUNT OF THE BID PRICE ABOVE $12,500 UP TO AND INCLUDING $600,000, PLUS 20% OF THE AMOUNT OF THE BID PRICE ABOVE $600,000 UP TO AND INCLUDING $6,000,000, PLUS 14.5% OF THE AMOUNT OF THE BID PRICE ABOVE $6,000,000."

Then there is the State tax, if any, and finally the shipping cost.

Well, a list of all the cuffs and maybe some more photos would be great. I'm sure it's an amazing collection, it's a little hard to offer$6000 for a mystery bag.
Would anyone else consider teaming up maybe?

The three cuffs pictured are worth $6000, the other 297 are a bonus

then split it up and make a killing. Get yourself a small loan and be the that person

I'm hoping to make a decent bid on these. My grandfather's (George Ladeau) health has taken a turn and he isn't doing that well (he's almost 93) and I would like to get a pair of Kimballs in his hands. The plan would be to sell most of the other stuff as it would all likely be duplicates of what we already have.

Hi, I plan on doing the same, minus putting the Kimballs in your grandfathers hands. Well, I might.
We might want to communicate together so that we don't jack the price up unnecessarily.
I already have a very nice Kimball so I may relinquish any interest in that one.
I am funded quite well but what I am worried about, are some of the high rollers that have heard are also interested in this collection.
They have an almost unlimited amount of money to spend and may knock me out of the game in the first couple of minutes.

I am just going to pour myself a beer and watch the show. It should be fun.
I would like the Lorey, but I have the other two featured cuffs (there are exactly two Russian Czar cuffs.) And I certainly do not need 300 more.

I do not have enough gas in the tank to make a serious run at this lot. I did look at the pictures of the other cuffs that are in the lot. This is very premature, but i would like to throw my hat in the ring, to anyone who may win this lot, to purchase the Santini Titan Handcuff that is in the lot.
