Instead of normal handcuffs, these were made to have one end snap on a finger or thumb and the other end was duster or brass knuckle held by the guard or officer to lead the prisoner. A slight turn of the cuff could easily break a finger or at least cause much pain. It has a button next to the GFC trademark that slides to the side to release the shackle.
