TL, all I'm seeing is the 3 comments on this thread, made by you. I see you are reacting to comments that were made by someone else on here. Where did the other person's comments go and what was being said? I,m a bit lost.

To answer your question on the cuffs. Yes, they are a Hiatt Darby Leg Iron. They were made in the 1980s as a "remake" of the Classic Hiatt Darby cuffs. The 1980s version is made of a cheaper "pot metal" material and is not at all the quality of the older Leg Irons made by Hiatt. The tell tale signs of this cheaper remake are the finish (color) of the cuffs, the raised head on the hinge pin and the shape/texture of the key. In today's market, they are only worth about $75-$100. Hope this helps you properly I.D. them in the future. These also come in Handcuffs, bar cuffs and transport combination sets.

I have a set of these and at the hinge on the clevis mine are marked HIATT & ENGLAND. Not stamped but in raised lettering. Mine also are very shiny and look band new. I found a photo of them on ushandcuffs.com. Hiatt Darby’s 115 with a 13 inch chain. I hope this may help. I’m also a newer collector.

Just this one time I'm gonna disagree with Richard. I don't think these are leg irons but rather the pot metal cast handcuffs. Picture of my plated pair for comparison. Unless we get the dimensions there's no sure way to tell who's right (not that it really matters).

Cuffman yours look like mine but I believe mine are aluminum and not metal at all. A magnet will only stay on the chain and not the cuffs on the set that I have. I’m not sure if they are polished aluminum or nickel plated though.

Thems fightin' words, Peter! I guess it would just depend on the overall size of them. I still think that they are a set of Leg Irons, though...LOL! (all in good fun, my friend)

P.S - I don't know how to post correctly so multiple posts seem to become created and as for certain replies .....
if they are with fingers pointed south then I don't give a tiny little rabbit's dropping!

I have just bought these leg irons. I do not have them yet. They have a similar grey colour but the clevis is much chunkier, they have a number stamped on them and the key has the matching number. But the key is not the cheapo style of key, it looks like the legit older keys and the hinge pins are not domed external rivet types. It looks like the classic style of hinge I am used to seeing. Are there any ideas on the age of mine and whether they might be a "legit" pair of leg irons for actual use or if they are the custom remakes? I have seen others with the external domed hinge pins but these are normal. Thanks

Depth perception is always off in 2D photos. The internal bolt looks like it's shallow and flush with the opening of the keyway. When actually the bolt is in real life deeper set, like you'd expect for security purposes. Unlike some people on the forum who actually are shallow and secure nothing but the desecration of a once highly regarded great resource. Anyway, I digress.

In person once cleaned up, the metal on these is not the blue-grey appearance of cheap pot metal or the toy darby handcuffs. It is almost a dull steel like rusted steel after sitting in evaporust for 24 hours, only with a sheen to it. It's made of a good alloy. AI theorises that because of the respected quality of HIATT that they would have used a good quality material for their early "real operational use" leg irons alloy like Zamak 5. I am really very happy with them. More than I thought I would be. Before looking into it I had no idea there was so many "pot metals" and some awful and some great.
