Solingen ! including the Maker's Mark!

They actually have a ''Solingen'' Maker's Mark! However , I think that ''Alemania" is actually misspelled on one part!

Hilariously typically Argentine M.O!
If they can:
Fake it.
Copy it.
Import it from China.
Or avoid ALL franchise FEES ; they will absolutely do it!

In a previous post the books by Alex Nichols were offered at a very reasonable price. A lot of collectors get their information from this book and the price is very reasonable. If you want to learn about handcuffs from various countries this would be a good investment for you. You could ask questions with some basic knowledge under you belt. Also searching the Forum you ca find a ton of information over many years of posting.

I did some proof-reading for Alex Nichols' first book "A guide book to handcuffs and other restraints of the world" and there are photos in there of some of the items in my collection. It's an excellent reference work, even for those of us who've been collecting for years.

I would highly recommend, to anyone getting into handcuff collecting, to buy these books, before they are gone. I know the numbers of them for sale out there and the places that sell them are dwindling. These books are indispensable to the collector. I use my set of the books on almost a daily basis. I have already had them open twice today, looking cuffs up that I have found for sale online.

I'd suggest CLEmen & JUng, SOlingen which became Clejuso. I've seen Germany spelt as Alamain and Alemein so I wouldn't get hung-up on the spelling. I'm sure one of our German experts can be more precise.

About the darby handcuffs on the page you shared, they are a pair of legit darby cuffs. I cant see any markings in the pics to help identify who would have made them? The stamps you pointed out, do not help to say who made them, only who may have used them. I am not familiar with the Police force these came from or how they stamped or marked their cuffs, so I cant confirm if the markings shown are real or not. I can say, if there is a misspelling, than the chances of them having been used by that Police force may be in question. I can also point out that the darby cuffs have had the linkage fixed or replaced at some point. You will notice on a pic that shows one of the rings that connect the swivel to the clevis on the top of the cuff, has not been properly welded closed. The other ring may also not have been welded, but I cant see it in the pics provided.

Very Similar to the mark on the key. The "Solingen'' Maker's Mark on the cuff key appears to be very similar to the above pictured maker's mark. It's been used for a very long time.
It's the very well know ''Helmut'' mark.

"German Tool and Blade Maker's Marks.''
The following Marks are attributed to Solingen:
''Helmet: —and sword: P D Lüneschloss —knight’s: C R Kirschbaum —knight’s: Otto Kirschbaum —knight’s: W R Kirschbaum''

Hard to see on the key though. Very Similar to the mark on the key. Hard to see on the key though.

I will agree with Paul on his observations. How he explained the origins of Clejuso and with your added pics of the symbol from Solingen, shed new light for me as to the identity of the cuffs. I went ahead and edited my previous response. It seems the only thing I was right on, was that it is indeed a legit darby handcuff. I have now learned more about what to look for on a Clejuso Darby. I only have one Clejuso Darby in my collection, but mine is void of stamps and marks. Live and learn.

This set isnt in the best condition, but it isnt in the worst condition, either. i would not hesitate to add it to my own collection. This is a nice find and will be a nice addition to your growing collection.
