Choices?

As some may recall I am a  retired LEO.  I recently was hired to work security for a major local hospital campus.  Went to get my uniforms and gear for my start date.  All gear on their dime!  The uniform place employee asked me about handcuffs that I liked knowing my past.  I was presented with Peerless or Smith and Wesson,  nickel or black oxide finishes, hinged or chain?  Hmmmm. I have all of these in my collection and or used them in the past.  Which would you chose?

Just a what would you do thing.  Not asking for advice because I already chose and have my choice.  Lol

Peerless hinged in silver is the way to go. Like the black but they always rusted on me. 

I didn’t chose black for the same reason too.  They look great but in use rust happens.

Always enjoyed using the hinged style cuffs. I feel Peerless has the advantage over S&W when it comes to their standard hinged cuff. Peerless is slightly larger/longer which always makes it easier when applying.

I'd tell them to keep it, and carry a Marlin Daly. – But that's just me.

S&W model 1 hinged. They have a wide range and simply work as intended. They might not fit a standard handcuff case though.

Im also on the S&W hinged in nickel, bandwagon. I prefer the double lock on the S&W and I think the hinge is better constructed. Nickel to keep them from rusting, as mentioned. If a slightly larger size is needed, use the Model 1H-1. If a standard sized cuff is OK, Use the Model 300-1.

I do like Paul's thinking though. A Marlin Daley Just has a cool look to them! And they wouldnt get mistaken for anyone else's cuffs. LOL!

In your position as a security officer or LEO I'd opt for the Smith Model 1 hinged. There's nothing wrong with the Peerless cuff but the hinged version is slightly too large for some applications. A small individual, typically a female can slip out of the Peerless restraints even when applied to the last notch. That won't happen with the S&W hinged cuff.

They WERE used up to the early 1970's - by the Los Angeles Sheriffs Dept.

Los Angeles Sheriff has been using Clejusos for a few years now for their transportation detail

I did go boring and selected the S&W chain cuffs in nickel.  I don’t start the new position for a couple weeks. Will see if I need a second back up pair and then decide if I un retire my LEO cuffs  or something from the collection.
