Hello,
My name is Emile Bradel, I am French, and as part of a university research, I am investigating the subject of handcuffs. More particularly their relationship with contemporary society. In order to introduce my research, I would love to have a video interview with a handcuff specialist. Otherwise, if you have any advice or studies to send me on this subject, I would be very grateful.

Contemporary is one of those vague english words which means 'in the same time as' but can be in the past or present. If you mean in the present, then my view is that they are more common in European bedrooms!
Does anyone have access to Alex Nichols book. Mine is packed away somewhere. I seem to recall that there was a section on the psychology of restraint use - or something like that.

Hello again,
Thanks again for your response on my post. I tried to reach some members who have made a few article in web-magazines, unfortunately I didnt get any answer . It looks that there is a lot of specialist arround here. Please, would someone agree to do a little video interview about handcuffs, i'll just ask some general questions. This discussion would make my resarch much more interesting and concrete. Sorry for my bad english.

Emile, This forum tends to be quite low traffic, and people do not look at it every day, some people once per month or longer. I do know of a couple of french speaking experts who are on this forum, but since they don't look at the forum often you may have to be patient to get a response. I will mention it to those that I know. You may have more success reaching out to specific collectors by email or personal message giving a bit more detail on what you're looking for in a video interview. Maybe send them the questions in advance so they have a chance to get an idea for the subject matter.

If your interview must be in French, I only know 2 guys who speak French and with handcuffs, are familiar at the expert level.
Unfortunately, one passed a year ago. The other should be able to help and I will let him chime in if he wishes to participate.
He is here often and should see this blog pretty soon.

I would love to help but I only know very limited French even though my mother was from Luxembourg and taught French in high school for decades.

I would welcome the opportunity to help you with this.
Would it be fair to ask you for some sample questions in advance so I can get prepared with some research to help me with my answers?

There was a "collector" that was doing an on-the-spot TV show interview and he made a complete mess of his appearance and looked like a total fool. I like to have my information correct and available so that I would never be in a position like he was.
He actually had to invent his own handcuff history as he made it perfectly clear that he no idea what he was talking about.

If sample questions are not your style on conducting an interview, perhaps just a guideline of what specific topic you want information on.
Some examples are; The use of handcuffs for escape artists/magicians, Use of restraints in arrest, transportation and prison settings, Handcuff development, history and manufacturing technology, and The stigma related to wearing restraint devices and how it makes the defendant look guilty to a jury when handcuffed at court proceedings.

To be honest, my area of expertise is in the history of handcuffs and their rarity, so a better understanding of what your interview will be about, should help both of us do the best job we can.

Sundays are my best days. My business takes up most of my time during the week.

Well, i will introduce my work on handcuffs by this interview so the principal topic that i would like to discuss with you is history of handcuffs and i guess that it will explain somehow why it makes the defendant look guilty, why the magicians use handcuffs, and maybe more. We'll see. So i'm writting the questions wich seems interesting to me and I send you the list.
Tell me the way you prefer to talk by message and what medium you want to use for the video interview.

No, I have not seen any emails from you.

I wrote to you twice.
I am not sure if you are replying to my emails or if you clicked on my link on the forum.
I am having trouble with Tap a Talk, the host of this site and I have to periodically use "Cuffs2000" when I can't log in with my usual sign in name.

Please let me know if you are replying to the email I have sent earlier today or last week.

Emile,
I was pleased to meet you today and I hope I exceeded your expectations in your research.
As I pointed out, handcuff collecting is an odd thing that most people don't think or care about, but to this community, it is all about the challenge in finding a rare cuff or finding information about one.
Talking with people all over the world and sharing stories, info, buying or trading and best of all, visiting people that would otherwise be impossible, is the best reward in collecting and/or studying handcuffs.

Best wishes with your project and I believe I gave you some of the best that I could offer in my years and travels on the subject.

Can't wait to see your results!
I am glad we connected after the troubles we had with the emails.
