M. S. Thomas nipper

Does anyone know if the M. S. Thomas nipper Pat. No. 446,616 was ever put in production?
Anyone have an example?

Hi Spencer, yes they were put into production.  The patent date is 25 Dec 1888

I have one of those myself but that Pat. no. Is 395,016 and I’m inquiring about a totally different nipper.

I have a feeling that the one I’m inquiring about was not made with the possible exception of the patent model.

I hope this helps out to identify what you are looking for Spencer. I found this pic of the patent that you are referring to. I have never seen an example of one.

That is the nipper in question. I had never seen one in any one’s collection and was curious if in fact they were ever made and the best evidence is no.

It looks a lot like this one, minus the thumb grip. This had been on ebay, but i found it with an image search for police nipper. I don't know who made this one.

Paul, That one looks like an older version of the Clejuso Model 6 Nipper. Im not 100% sure, but i believe that is what is shown in your pic. Can anyone on here, verify that?

If anyone is interested in the more common Thomas Nipper, I have one for sale.
It retains 95% of its original plating.  It has strong springs and no flaws, cracks, repairs.

I have seen the patent papers on the rare model and have never seen nor heard of anyone who has one or seen one.

If you want a Thomas, this may be the only version you will find minus a patent sample, if one exists.

Here is an unusual Thomas Nipper formerly in the Damon Shields collection.
I do not know who owns it now.

That is unusual and probably a unique one as I’ve never seen another one like it. Is it a locking nipper?

So, if it unlocks with a key is it a nipper or a cuff. LOL
Very interesting!

The nipper is now in my collection.  It does not use a key. There is a  small release lever that can be seen on the lower left hand side of the cuff in the picture.

The cuff cocks open and then closes with a very rapid motion.  It locks until the little lever is pushed to the side. It is a very neat item.
