Selling Items on the Forum.

Members of the forum who would like to use the forum to sell an item.  To keep the sales posts simple and to keep from having to ask multiple questions about the items, we have decided to post the following rules:

1. Please limit the items posted for sale to Collectible Restraints (antique and modern), Keys for Restraints, Media Referring to Restraints (books, videos, catalogs, etc.) and Items that are Related to Restraints and the Use There Of.  Items related to escapes and escapology are fine.  Items primarily intended for the fetish market are not acceptable.

2. Please include "FOR SALE" in the title of the post.

3. Please include the name of the restraint (if known) and a short description, in the body of your post. Stating whether it comes with a key, if it works correctly, condition of the item, etc.

4. Please Include at least 1 picture of the actual restraint being sold. No stock images taken from other websites. Try to use the best lighting and focus to showcase the item you are selling. Try to provide pictures of any known damage to the item. Include the key, if you have one, in the picture. 

5. You must include the location where this item is located currently. Since the members of the forum stretch across the globe, this lets others know what a rough idea on shipping costs should be.

6. The Asking Price of the item, must be included! No exceptions! It makes no sense to try to sell something and not put a price on the item.

7. Please include contact information (valid e-mail address) for you, in the event someone wishes to make a purchase. Or, you can ask for other members to send you a private message via this forum.

8. Once the item is sold, make a post at the end of the comment thread stating that the item is now sold. 

The goal with these rule  is to make the sales posts easier to navigate without having to ask multiple questions of the seller. Trying to make the restraints for sale on this page as easy and as transparent of a transaction as possible. We are hoping to see the flow of sales goods coming through these pages to expand our possible market for pieces for our collections. Keep in mind, selling items through the forum is a privilege, not a right. Keeping things fair and honest will allow you to sell your restraint related items through this forum.

The forum can be used a place for you to sell your items.  Other than that the forum has nothing to do with any of the transactions.  The responsibility for a sale rests solely with the buyer and seller.  Buyers be sure you know and trust the seller before you send money. Sellers be sure you know and trust the buyer before you send your item.

Thank you, Joe, for making your site available as an alternative to those who often pay expensive fees to eBay.

If I may, once a transaction is complete and both parties are satisfied with the item and its delivery, the buyer should post a note that the seller described the item accurately and shipping was as expected.  It would be helpful for the seller if he/she lists a few items so others would know that that seller is a trusted member of our community.  I know that I would like the feedback and it is similarly done at eBay.

Not many with a PayPal account seen to know that you can print a shipping label on their site.
This allows one to ship their item without having to go to the post office.  The costs are at a slight discount too.
Not sure if this is available to those outside of the U.S.

There has been a lot of problems buying handcuffs from sellers in Great Britian.  They seem to be on a banned list and often get confiscated. 
Selling here would be MUCH safer than on eBay.

Mr Lauher,  thanks. May I suggest that prices are very hard to estimate in a collector's market. Perhaps the rule that a price must be stated is too restrictive? Perhaps offers could be invited?

I fully agree I placed a want to buy add and found what I was looking for and no worries of EBay’s gobal shipping program saying your item has been confiscated and is restricted to the country it’s going to while it’s actually not.

When I need cuffs I would rather get a set from here and even pay a premium if it’s something I really want as being a US buyer. They eBay Gobal shipping program has took 4 pairs of cuffs. At least they weren’t rare but still the point.

The big issue with not putting a price on what you are selling, is that we have had some sellers in the past, that give certain people, higher prices, via email, than they do to others. By making everyone post their asking price along with pics and description of what they are selling, this removes any foul play and puts everyone on the same playing field. I myself have experienced the price increase, from a deal that was posted through here, many years ago. I would assume the seller, did not want to sell to me, so they quoted me higher than they did for everyone else. In the end, i did get the cuffs I was after at the lower price, thanks to a friend on the forum, acting as a ghost buyer for me. Joe is just trying to keep any sales through the platform on the up and up. Not looking to run an auction house, just sell by individual ads.

Mark's idea of the added feedback is a nice addition, i think. It would help to establish sellers as legitimate and to out the known fraudsters, before they become an issue. Anyone who has been a part of the forums for many years can name off a few shysters we had within our own ranks, who have since moved on and no longer sell through these pages. People here know me. I do not play around. I am upfront and honest. If i get screwed over, im going to get loud and im going to call out the individual who takes advantage of me. Anyone who has ever purchased from me will tell you, i described the exact item i ship to them. I have never had to process a return.

With all of us on the same page and working towards the same goal, we can create a free flowing marketplace that is very trustworthy and easy for our visitors to use. Due to all of the issues associated with the Ebay Global Shipping Program, ultimately, this platform would be much safer to use for getting cuffs from overseas and sending cuffs overseas. Its a win/win situation for all involved!

Richard, there are so many issues involved with dealing with people you "know".  For instance, I have sold to you on eBay, but you've said you will not sell to me on eBay because I'm overseas (not knowing who I was). Feedback is another tricky issue. I had a good deal with a friend from here, but it was difficult because there were hundreds of $ in fees involved. if there is a dispute, you don't want it aired on here. Joe would not want to be editing nasty or defamatory feedback. I still think eBay is the best option if you can be bothered with the fees and don't use GSP. It keeps buyers at arms length. But I also like to offer cuffs to known collectors first. It is tricky if you are not in the same country using the same currency.

I would like to say that I prefer to sell cuffs to members in this community more than on eBay.
Since this is a hobby for me, I don't care if there is profit in it or not.
Selling on the forum is usually for recovering what I originally paid for the item.
There are no fees and as buyer and sellers are more aware of how the transactions will go.
Adding an item to a friend's collection is always a good deed.
These are the plus side of things.

On the downside, a solitary price is offered, and some haggling can go back and forth, which is fine.
eBay on the other hand, allows millions more people to see your item and bid.
Buyers in a bidding war can produce amazing prices.
The price realized may be many times over what the sales price is on the forum.
Profit is usually the motive and, on many occasions, just receiving the cost of the item is all you get.

Now with eBay reporting the sale to the government, proper taxes will be subtracted from any gains.
Paypal income thru Friends and Family is also reported on forum sales, so there is no pros and cons with either sales platform.

Paul and I have had dealings and international fund exchanges can hand you an unexpected expense that can escalate the item cost.
Communication and friendship offset any differences between the agreed price and the actual price.
eBay may not allow for direct negotiations where forum sales should result in a more pleasant manner.
