Hello all:

I have a "non-handcuff collector" friend (not me) - who has expressed interest in purchasing a CAVENEY HANDCUFF (either model).

The handcuffs should be of very nice physical & working condition (95%+ Nickel).

Apologies to my overseas friends, but the request is to find a Seller from the United States.

Please e-mail me a Photo(s); Asking Price; and if a Key is available.

I make no promises, but I will be glad to pass your information along to my friend.

I don't think I was aware that Caveney had 2 models. I was only aware of the many Marlins. What is the difference, or which model is mine? Paul

You are right!...I had confused these two handcuffs.

(It is the "Marlin-Daley" that came in 2 different models).

Never-the-less, it is a CAVENEY Handcuff that my friend is looking for.

Would anyone disagree with me if I used the term 'elegant' to describe that pair of cuffs? I can easily imagine them on the wrists of a cheating gentleman gambler or a fashionable female embezzler. It would have been interesting to watch the manufacturing process.

The caption that came with this pic said they used Marlin Bottlenecks, but I have always liked this shot. Im pretty sure its a movie scene? Possibly a movie named "The Hard Man."

Certainly jail 'jewellery' Tom. Marlin are are favourite American cuff - said to have been used by Steve McQueen in 'Bullit'

I Love Lucy had Lucy and Ricky locked up in Pinkertons while in the living room but as they prepare for sleep, the cuffs change into Marlin or Caveneys.

It is assumed that the bottlenecks were more comfortable to wear in production and watching this show on Oct 6, 1952, on a small 11- or 12-inch screen, the producers figured that no one would be able to see the difference.

I still can't tell if they are Marlin or Caveney. I would sure love to have these cuffs with a story!

I have a pair just like these in that condition.
Not many are this pristine and it is rare to see one so similar to mine.
The post is simply a screw, so a treaded tube will open them.

Hi Joe.
My experience with Catlow has been much less than honorable. I surmise that originally, he listed them at $300 and not only does he list the cuffs here, but he also lists them on a Facebook site.
I asked him about a couple of cuffs, and he told me that he will not be selling any until he studies or reviews what his plans are to be.
He told me that this process will take a while, but he will send me some pics by last Thursday.
None of this happened and at least one of the cuffs was prematurely sold without him communicating with me in any way, shape or form.
I understand that he had more than a few collectors contact him, and he simply escalated the price to $400 with no regard to promises or agreements made to others.
I hate dealing with people like this and I lost interest with all of his cuffs.
Little does he know that I would have most likely paid him top dollar for the couple that I wanted if only he lived by his word.

I believe your friend will find a nice cuff with Catlow but the experience of obtaining it will be less than desirable. He should do it fast before it is relisted at $500.

Update; He did jump the price up $100 in an edit about 30 minutes after I complimented him on the Caveney cuffs as evidenced below.

So this is the guy who wanted some help with prices on a collection he inherited - see "Seeking current values on handcuffs" post. That possibly became an unintentional lure where people messaged him personally to get in first and make offers, which in turn has escalated the prices in a bidding war. Low offers get rejected and hurts credibility, high offers get accepted. That's just the way it goes. I've not tried buy from him, but good luck - and read the advise about buying and selling cuffs on this forum.

Dave Has listed the Caveneys on a FB Handcuff Collectors page and they now have been marked as sold. Just a heads up and to put an end to the inquiries.

I believe 'Lowcat", as Joe Fox renamed him, has retracted all of his posts from this Facebook site because I cannot see any of them anymore.
Maybe he initiated a privacy setting that does not allow me to see his posts because I called him out on his unprofessional ways.
Either way, I am pleased to rid my life of another unscrupulous seller in this otherwise great hobby.

If anyone is looking for items from reliable sellers, this site frequently has offerings from Steve Santini, Michael Griffin and others where one can write to them, get a price, send the money, and the item will be delivered.
