Can somebody help me unlock..

...the identity of these Brass Nippers?

Got these in an auction lot with old ww2 trench knives and a US M3 kinfolks 1943  knife:)
There are no makers marks on these Brass Nippers.

I have been making the rounds on Google trying to narrow down the maker, but to no avail . I got as far as pinning down these Nippers/Snap/come alongs to a few makers based on the awesome site handcuffs.org

1. Hiatt
2. Thewlis & Griffith
3. Dowley

I know I may be way way off, so I am seeking the help of all the experts here who know how to unlock the makers name.

My best guess is that these are Hiatt as there were a few variations made but we really need Joe to wade in on this one.

I don't think they are Hiatt, although I suppose they could be. 
I don't know of any brass Hiatt cuff of any kind.
They may very well be from Birmingham, but my guess is that some brass company made them.
Who knows?  They are nice though.

I read someplace that the nippers were first made using brass and as these were not very strong they used iron or steel.
Can we Date these to a accuracy of 25 year period?

While a rare occurrence in the restraint field just look at the Blakely nipper, it was offered in a brass and steel version. I’m sorry but I can’t begin to accurately date them.

Hi,

Like the others have said it will be almost impossible to say who made your nippers. However for the record Hiatt did make brass snips /nippers/ snaps.
They also made aluminium ones as well.
There are some similarities but enough differences between the two pairs. To me, the detail in the sprung latch puts then around 1870 to 1890 in date. This is just an assumption based on having many pairs. As time goes by you tend to loose the finer details.

My pair is stamped Hiatt in 3 places. 

The final picture is of a pair of aluminium ones. These are considerably newer in date perhaps 1950 to 1970. If anyone else has aluminium snips or can pin the date more accurately it would be good to know.

  

The main reason I suggested that these might be Hiatt is because as a general rule knock offs tend to be of lesser quality than the original that they are imitating and your nipper seems to be of excellent quality.
