EBay GSP

They have done it again! The ASP cuffs I sold were confiscated and are now relisted. They have even used my original photos!!
I have asked the seller where he got them from and reported it to eBay.
What else can we do?

I lost a great pair that also ended up in BrillbuyUK's hands.
I made a formal complaint to eBay over a year ago but they do not write back with any updates.
This guy apparently bids on the confiscated stuff and resells quite often.

ONE CAN'T EVER USE THE GLOBAL SYSTEM when sending stuff from UK to US or Canada.  They think handcuffs are the same as Fentanyl or something.
It has been suggested that one could sell a piece of $20 junk cuffs and the winner buys it for $1,000 and when the seller keeps the money and the buyer gets refunded, the 2 parties split the money.
One way to end this saga if this goes on and on.

I find that DHL is the way to go.  VERY fast delivery, Good tracking and never lost a package.
Shipping rates are the BEST too!

Ebay Global Shipping through Pitney Bowes has decided that handcuffs are a restricted item and they will confiscate them when they find them. As Mark says, they sell the confiscated items in lots. BrillBuyUK buys these lots and resells the items he buys. He almost always seems to re-use the original pics and tends to charge more than they original sold for. Whether or not he has ties to customs somehow or is truly a guy who buys and resells these lots, remains to be seen. Something doesnt smell right with this whole situation though.

I have no idea what recourse you could take on this? You could ask for an investigation from customs against pitney bowes, since they are the one that runs the Ebay Global Shipping Program? Im pretty sure it is Pitney Bowes that is grabbing the items and not Customs. Which, legally, if they shouldnt be calling these "restricted items" this would be theft in the eyes of the law. First you would have to make sure the law doesnt restrict the export of cuffs without a license. Im not sure on the exact law over by you? If its not illegal, see if you can launch an investigation into the practices followed by Pitney Bowes. Maybe start with inquiring with customs in your country if handcuffs are a restricted item for export by a citizen? Then take it from there, depending on their answer? In the meantime, always use a shipping source outside of Ebay Global Shipping. Avoid them at all costs!

This just looks like absolute insanity!! 

The question is not whether confiscation is legal for any reason, it is whether it is eBay policy as policed by their agent. Which I believe it is. If you have an eBay account, then you have agreed to abide by their policy. The next question is, can Pitney Bowes sell the confiscated item (yes) and your photos along with the original recorded sale price????

Did anyone consider filing a complaint with the police for theft? That's just what it is.

When they did this to me on an early rare darby cuff, I repurchased the item from the new seller and had eBay refund me the increase in price and shipping from the original purchase. It was a big headache that I shouldn't have had to go through in the first place. If enough people would do that, I'm pretty sure that the thefts would eventually stop. They're making a profit on their thefts right now, if they continuously took a financial beating our shipments would probably start to get through.

Hm, maybe it's time to list some real expensive cuffs on ebay.co.uk ... ;)

This has been going on for a while has anyone considered a class action lawsuit or filling a police report. From my understanding they are committing theft.

It's not really theft because the buyer is refunded and the seller keeps the money. It is very annoying for people though.

The way I see it, if I take somebody's property and give him the money for it, it's still theft. Only the government can "seize" things, and only within strict legal limits. Our problem is that this whole thing appears to occur outside or between national boundaries, which makes it hard to prosecute, I'm wondering if there isn't a business plan behind all this. I suggest taking legal action and see what happens. Technically, with the payment of the item, it has become your property.

Unfortunately eBay is a trading group that you have joined, agreeing to their rules. Like Facebook they appear to be above the law.

Not sure if we can call it theft as I kept the sales money (less their charges of about £75). The buyer got fully reimbursed so can not really complain and somewhere with Pitney Bowes they have a ‘Unique’ set of Hiatt 3 handed 1960 cuffs.

Was this a factory made set? Or something some one made in a workshop? It doesnt look factory assembled to me?

I find this interesting, amusing and a bit sad at the same time.
This one fivestaruk, other one brillbuysuk , seems vaguely related. Clearly the 'seller' had a very clear heads up as to what they sold for.
What an absolutely incredible scam.
Now.. just for fun, do I bid again.. buy them.. get them confiscated again.. and see how many times I can buy the same cuff and loop the exact same cuff through the process... the only risk being that one day I actually pay $400 and pay way over the odds. I would be absolutely fascinated to see how many times I can buy these same cuffs tho. Hilarious... and sad

James when I saw them I knew right off that the price had to be known from the past sale or why else would they be asking so much. It angers me to see that this continuously happens with eBays global shipping. Its really quite sickening in fact. Ron J

I wrote the seller and asked where he got them from; he said they came from an auction. So it seems GSP/PB might be holding auctions where they sell off whatever they "confiscated". 

I believe they buy bulk lots and are given the prices and existing photos to re-use.

I recall reading that one reseller bought a bulk lot at an auction just like you’ve stated. Funny thing is this seller is shipping with eBays global shipping. Most likely this will be confiscated again . Ron J

I have been staying away from buying cuffs from sellers who were using eBay Global Shipping.  However, I bought a pair of Polish cuffs where the seller was using the global shipping and I just received a message form eBay stating the item was restricted (shipping was from England) and I would be receiving a full refund.

That’s happened to me several times with eBays global shipping, to the point that I won’t purchase from a seller using global shipping. However I’ve asked sellers if they would ship with Royal Mail and they had no issues doing that. Royal Mail has also been a lower cost as well and I received the cuffs. Ron J

EBay are becoming a real joke, put a set of handcuffs, whistles, medal and BATON on. They took it off as the Baton (truncheon) is against their weapons policy!
Put it back on an removed the word Baton same photos and just sold it!

The cuffs you have on say they are shipped GSP. Better change it I think.
