hi guys
i am moving forward a very unique pair of peerless 701c handcuffs 
these have an o-ring link instead of a double link chain
they were made for me directly by peerless as an experimental build

i conversated with peerless about some concerns over standard chain link handcuff designs in general
cg had his plant manager make these for me so i could test my o-ring security theory

they are probably the only official pair that exists like this from peerless 
i hate to move them forward but i just have no future use case for them

as i told cg in a follow up email i am not a product engineer 
and the o-ring only addressed one of my two concerns successfully which was range of motion

so perhaps a collector can benefit from these more than my shelf can

keep in mind the handcuffs were super wet from oil i applied at the time of the photos
and you are seeing that oil shine and cloth lint exaggerated in the pics i took

these were never stress tested or used in any official capacity
they are as good as new
we processed maybe 50 swing arm passes as we placed them on a test subject

i would be happy to validate the cuffs as official from peerless
i would not recommend using these for any security purpose as they are an experimental factory made product

The easy way to tell if its was a cuff made by my friend, Steve, and I, is to see if the finish matches the rest of the cuff. If Steve puts a chain or a connecting ring in or swaps things out, he almost always uses stainless steel. Where as a handcuff maker is generally going to use steel that would be nickel plated when the rest of the set of cuffs is plated. We do not nickel plate over anything we add on to a set of cuffs. So, you will see a difference from our connecting rings, compared to the cuff bodies we use, etc. Its more obvious on some cuffs that others. Steve's way of using the stainless steel, matches against the factory finish of S&W pretty well. But, the finish of the S.S. rings are more dull than a typical Peerless or Hiatt cuff, etc. And, of course, you can always test the replaced links or rings with a magnet to see if they are stainless steel or not. A manufacturer, isnt likely going to mix Stainless Steel hardware with a nickel plated cuff. 

Steve and I have made way too many cuff set-ups to try to count. We sell them all over the world, through several different sources, so its hard to say where they end up, eventually. Steve and I are both well known on sales sites such as Ebay. I can proudly say that he, nor I, have ever had a complaint raised from the workmanship done at his shop. I wasn't aware you customized cuffs. i like your 104 mod. only thing is the window exploit that was discovered and has been discussed here on the forums would drive me crazy knowing it's a 'high security' handcuff defeated by a pull and tug on the double lock. 

the pair i am selling was made by peerless and is an official peerless product. i figured someone might want them for their collection given their 'brand' authenticity which i can prove. 

i love o-ring designs because they bring the hands much closer together than a double link chain but the experiment fell short of my expectations. again i am not product engineer. i was just playing with an idea and peerless helped me out. 

what other mods have you done just out of curiosity? do you have a website or image gallery showing them? would love to see your creations. 

Unfortunately, no website or anything. We have both taken some time away from selling on Ebay lately. The market has just been dead and the prices have been disappointing. The cuffs we usually use are any type of cuff we can get used, but in good/working condition. The main go to's of course, are Peerless and S&W, as they are the easiest to find. But, we have also used Clejuso, Hiatt, American Handcuff Co, Boa, ect. Depending on what you are looking for and what your budget is, we can also buy cuffs new and chain the configurations for you, etc.

Mainly, we do things like single rings, long chain, short chain, 3-ways, Hog Ties, Lead Chains, Belly Chains, Auto Transport Sets, Combo Chain Sets, Gang Chains, etc. We have also done projects that we only made a handful of , or in some cases, only one was made. We have made Hinged sets of S&W Model 104, A Quad set of HWC Stainless Steel Cuffs, Double Stacked Cuffs, Custom Leather Restraint Belts, Combo Chain Blue Boxes and Bar Cuffs. We are open to take on custom jobs, providing we have the inventory of what we need to make whatever you are thinking of. The shop we use is a bit limited. Steve has a mill, Band Saw, Lathe, Welders, Drill Press, polishing wheel and a few other machines along with a good selection of tools, between the two of us. Steve is a really good welder. He is kind of the "brawn" and and im the "brains" of the operation. LOL!

Rich now in stock, I have this single ring S&W 104, 3 different sizes of Peerless Model 500 3-way sets, Hiatt Thompsom Long Chain, a couple of different S&W and Peerless Long chains, a single ring Peerless Model 503 Leg Iron, S&W Model 1 Lead Chain and a handful of just "stock" cuffs like AHC Model 520 Hinged Oversized cuffs, S&W Model 938 Stainless Steel cuffs, Hiatt Thompson Model 1010, Winchester Model WN-40, CTS Tri-Max, Peerless older style hinged, Peerless hinged 850c in pink, Chief of Police made in Spain, Peerless Corner Stamped 500, ASP Model 400 and a set of Republic Arms hinged cuffs. For older cuffs, I have a S&W/Peerless mODEL 1 verion 1, A Peerless Model 2 Version 5 and a A maltby tri-key. I hope to have a few of the older basic cuffs soon (H&R, Bean Cobb, Tower Bean, Tower, Peerless, S&W, Hiatt Darbys, etc. Here are a few pics of things I have at the moment (pics of white towel). that's a plethora of information. thanks for sharing the creations and current inventory. you do have some interesting cuff modifications in your portfolio. i am sorry to hear the business is not as strong as you would like it to be.

not sure if that has to do with the economy or lessening interest overall. but i will keep in mind your work. i am always searching for someone to modify cuffs for me with fresh ideas for better control and more security. 

im surprised you both haven't gone into producing your own custom handcuff company or at least some custom handcuff concepts from engineering scratch. producing a working concept shouldn't be that expensive given 3D printing and milling compared to say 20 years ago. 

of course knowing how to use cad software and a little bit of product engineering ability might help lessen the cost. 

Not really interested in starting up a full time type business. Just something that Steve and I do on the side. Helps support my handcuff buying habit. LOL! Since we dont really make anything that is our own, we basically modify an existing product, i dont want to have to go through other companies for licensing, permissions, etc. We have seen time and time again, where companies try to "re-invent the wheel." There just isnt a wide market for it. What the Police have now, works. They are happy with what they have and the price point it comes in at. The price of the finished product would have to be so low, there wouldnt be much of a profit to be made. Companies like Peerless, S&W, etc, have shaved away any profits by selling their cuffs for $25 a set. I would be buying their product, plus modifying their cuffs and trying to resell them. Price point would be just too high to be able to sell enough. Our mods also do not meet up to N.I.J. standards as we do not heat treat or anything like that. We sell more to cuff enthusiasts who want something unique.

Yea I can understand that. I just figured with your experience you could probably design a handcuff that moves up handcuff engineering to the next level. The price point has always been interesting to me.

Many distributors and retailers always stress the price point of handcuffs especially for government buyers. I just wonder how the hell companies like ASP can continue to push for and maintain retail price points of $50, $60, $70 USD EACH and even way more for leg irons and transport systems. 

But I guess if you look at the bigger picture most cops in the United States that use ASP handcuffs make those purchases as individual buyers whereas most government agency purchase orders usually call for Peerless or Smith given the price points.

Although I would have to believe ASP provides a significant price reduction for volume buyers but then again maybe this explains why the SENTRY model now exists. Maybe they were finding their products were not price competitive enough to attract agency buyers. 

The bad news is even the SENTRY models are priced much higher than Peerless and Smith. HCW has it right with Chicago. The X22 handcuff is so cheap given its security features and reliability. Not sure how they managed to maintain a relationship where they can retail those cuffs for $25 and other standard models at $20. Kind of crazy but good for them for cashing in on that relationship years ago that lead them to the Chicago brand.
