Unusual Tower handcuffs

I came across these Tower handcuffs with unusual chain links and can’t remember if these have been addressed on the forum before so I decided to share them now.

Here is my set of Tower Bottom Key cuffs with the twisted oval chain links.  Two patent dates are stamped on each bow June 17, 1862 and June 17, 1866.

Great find Ron and yours is the same model. You don’t come across many of those.

Spencer,  I just took a look at the chain on the cuffs I call Phelps/Towers.  The chain is the same as on the bottom key cuffs.  Also the Towers have the offset keyway.
Hope the Forum pictures come back.  They all seem to be gone for now.

Beautiful cuffs! I’m still looking for one of these for my collection. A twisted chain Tower cuff I don’t have, however I do have the twisted chain first model leg irons. Do these cuffs have the first model keyhole or the second model keyhole? Ron J

The keyhole is what I would call offset, somewhat like the number 9.  I guess this would be the first model.  Tried to upload a photo but its not working.

Very good Ron and with the picture I see what you are referring to. I suppose this represents Tower’s first production of his iconic cuffs.
