The Tom Gross collection

There are still several unsold lots from the April 29 sale of the Tom Gross collection.

I’ve tried to put reasonable prices on the items but pricing is extremely difficult. To be honest, I expected more cuffs to be sold.
The problem of not being able to sell to European collectors naturally affects sales of course. My client has now submitted an application for an export license in my name. If this goes through, it could be possible for me to forward packages within Europe. But this process can take a long time.

However, the entire collection must be sold as my client is not a collector.

There are unfortunately no high end cuffs for sale so need to ask for Palmer, Bean Giant, Carberry, Hugo Stanley, Romer etc.

Hi Lars,
it seems a great idea to forward packages within Europe, however, besides from U.S. export restrictions the other obstacle to import restraints to the European Union is not to violate the E.U. Anti-Torture Regulation.
In order not to commit a crime when importing restraints you need to know exact measurements of dimensions & cuff circumferences to ensure that the restraints will be classifed as ‘ordinary handcuffs’ according to Annex III of the above regulation.
This kept me from bidding on items of the Tom Gross collection, so far.

I wasn't aware of these regulations. So far I have sold handcuffs (I had a big sale of modern restraints from my own collection in October/November last year) to several countries in EU and never experienced any problems in whatsoever.

Now we need to wait and see if my cliend will be able to work out an export license in my name. As I understand, the process is not fast.

I read that anti-torture regulation 2021 and asked it from Customs here in Finland. And their answer was that the products which are not for use, are collectible can be kept in a collection without being prevented by regulation. This is the situation here in Finland. I don´t know hot to interpret it in other EU countries.
Customs' reasoning was that the objects were not meant to be used but kept in a museum collection/collection and it is about a single object/small amount of objects, not large amount.

Love that picture! From a time with lots of fun. You are right, I could never imagine that I one day would get the task to sell Tom's collection. Amazing!
