I watched a video on YouTube on Dragon Man's unique and rather extensive collection of anything related to the military. I do not remember the brand of come a long he had, but he said they were used to drag the bodies out of the gas chambers more easily. Does anyone have anymore information on this or know if this is correct?

#2I have nothing to substantiate Dragon Man's claims, but this is also the first time I have ever heard of a Come-Along being used like this? In essence, you would be using the nipper like a handle to drag out the deceased. I suppose It would work quite well for that application. We do know that nippers were available and being used at that time, in police and military work. So, I would think that it could be a possibility that Come-Alongs could have been used in that manner.

You sir are correct, they are nippers. Not sure I know the differences between the 2, never really had an interest in them. Years ago a guy I worked with had a come a long and offered to sell it to me but I didn't have an interest in them so I didn't get them, how dumb we are when we're young.

Come-Alongs and Nippers are basically two terms for the same type of restraint. A type of clamping device that when closed, has a circular portion that ensnares one's wrist and a handle that is formed, for the officer to grab on to to control their prisoner. Any resistance from a prisoner, the officer must only give a slight twist to the handle, causing the circular part holding the prisoner's wrist to dig into the prisoner's wrist. This causes a great amount of pain and usually leads t a prisoner ceasing to resist the officer any longer. Here are a couple of examples of Nippers/Come-Alongs.

The only nipper that comes to mind is the Thewlis.
I would not call it a double lock but the 2 handle ends snap together with so much pressure that the screw key is needed to separate them, when ready to do so.

Mark look at the nippers/ come alongs that Richard posted. The second one from top. Is the type I’m referring to pretty much. If it just locks in one position I think that might be fine. If it doesn’t I’m guessing the prisoner would endure some serious pain lol.

#8Most I have handled or own only single lock. Since they are just a temporary transport type restraint, that would make sense. Many of them only "click" into one position or close via 3 teeth or so, so they dont squeeze down very tightly. Its the twisting motion that "tightens them up." Most of them dont even lock, for say, but rather are held closed with a clip of some sort. The officer just has to pull up on the clip to release the prisoner. Things like the Iron Claw, do have a "double locking" mechanism of sorts, via the collar that screws down to keep the collet from being pulled up to allow the handle to turn and release the device. I would not say that the majority of come-alongs have a double locking mechanism, but like cuffs, some do.

Ooops I did not see that, and yes, that is a locking nipper with key!
I stand corrected. No, I don't think any in this style will double lock.
