this Summer the wife and I toured Sweden and Norway. We were also able to visit Lars on last time, if only briefly. He tired quickly, but he was enthusiastic talking about our favorite topic. I'm happy to remember him that way.
The city of Marstrand is about an hour North of Göteborg (Gothenburg) on the West Coast of Sweden. The Fortress of Carlsten served as an Academy, a prison and also a youth hostel. A set of fully body iron restraints called, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, "iron clothes", or "iron clothing", are on display at the castle's entrance. They weigh easily over 40 or 50 pounds and consist of a collar, a belt, handcuffs and shackles. Lars said the whole assembly is ultra-rare; he only owned a bar leg restraint. The city is very beautiful, with lots of boats, birds and tourists.
Here is some more info on the fortress. An interesting, somewhat embarrassing fact: The commander once believed he was going to be attacked by a far superior force and surrendered the castle. He obviously got into hot water afterwards. Some more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlsten
