Hi,
does anyone have any photos of antique shackles / handcuffs in storage rooms, preferably in high resolution?
Like this, for example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335367012867
Let's see what we can come up with!

Best regards

Here are a few i have collected over the years. If the pics belong to anyone here, i apologize for using them. My intention is not to steal anyone's thunder, but just to share pics I have saved from various sources, that relate to this topic.

Nils. Where is the first photo from? I'm interested to see the cuffs on the metal belt. I've seen similar cuffs, but never used that way. It makes sense.

Can't remember where I found it. You could try a reverse search with the image.

If the first image is the one with the waist belt. That belt appears to be the design of the one Dick Turpin wore and might have been a display at the museum he was once kept in.

Those are two nice Bean ball & chains but I can’t tell what weight they might be.

I thought the same thing, but the Dick Turpin one uses Darbies and so does mine. I think Chris has a set of those Figure 8s with one small end, and this might be how they were originally intended to be used.

Hi Nils,

I have been wanting to post some pics of a few postcards from my collection and a photo that I never presented before, but time got the best of me.
This fit in with your topic and I hope you like them.  Some came out pixilated so I will try to replace them when time is more favorable.
I've been too busy making keys to handcuffs that people have been sending to me when they got disgusted with McColl's strange behavior.
I hope you and your bride are doing well so far this year.
I can't wait to visit you again; it was a very wonderful time that we had!

Chain Room Princetown Prison England

French Transport Chains -- Museum at Saloges   France?

Santini's Attic?    No, but pretty close to it!  I've been to Nurnberg but have not seen or heard if this display is still around.

Joe Tanner when he bought much of the Nugent/Wresch Collection.
I ended up with 4 items from here including the red table banner.
I don't see my Bean Giant (the one shown is in another fine collection now) but my famous German Slander Trial Berliner is hanging up in the upper left corner
My Wisner is on the 2nd panel at the bottom row on the left.  It has the item number stamped on them to prove its authenticity.  My Berliner is stamper similarly.

A selected grouping from some of the above collection.  My Berliner is shown on the upper right corner.

Found these in newspaper articles on Brindamour The VERY RARE Canadian Cuffs are to the right of his picture.

The yellow arrow shows the rare Canadian Cuff of which 5 or less is known and all seem to have its roots in Canada and is certainly made by Phelps but not verified.
Some have round links and some have twisted.  All known cuffs seem to differ in some way, so we don't know if they were prototypes, special order, experimental or if they had a normal but limited production.
A blog about this unusual was started here a couple years ago or so.

I saved and could slightly improve the eBay pic.
The link to eBay will fade out in a month or so, so it is now archived here as best as I could get it.
Wonder if they display them currently.

Thank you for the clarification. I wasnt sure if a private citizen owned them and was displaying them with the S.A.M. or if S.A. M. actually owned them. At least with them being owned by that organization, we can rest assured that they will not be sold multiple times for profit, until they end up in the hands of a wealthy collector, never to be seen again.

To be fair, the info Ian has given me through the years, has always been correct, to the best of my knowledge. I cant say that he has misled me on any information regarding handcuffs, keys, locks, etc. That is not my issue with Ian. I am grateful for the information involving restraints, that he has given  me through the years. However, its is his rude demeanor and lack of respect that turn me off to dealing with his services. His constant need to throw jabs concerning religion, politics and place of birth was one of the deciding factors for me. This is a forum for handcuffs and handcuff collectors. We dont come on here to discuss politics and/or religion. We discuss the history of Rankin Co. or show others the new ASP cuff design that just hit the market. We buy and sell handcuffs and handcuff related items. If we could keep threads and topics to related material, this forum would be much better off.

I don't need to lie, I don't have a religion to defend or offer me redemption and then do so. Your only beef is that I asked you why as an American native, you swapped your noble hertiage for the middle eastern religion? You claimed that was mockery. You have been bent out of shape ever since. I do like watching the hypocricy of the righteous like you and MAGA Mark. Why haven't you spanked Mark's bottom is a Stormy/Trump type way and told Mark he is a naughty boy. LMFAO oh you kids are so funny.

Thats not at all what drove a wedge between us. You and I had emailed back and forth, quite a lot. You started to bring up American Politics. I told you that the two things I did not wish to discuss with you are 1. Politics and 2. Religion. I had asked you to please refrain from bringing up either of those two topics in any of our future conversations. The very next email you send was mocking me for my two boundaries and you included a political cartoon concerning Trump. I told in my next email, that we were done. I would no longer reach out to you and I asked that you no longer reached out to me.

Your next religious attack on me and my beliefs came during a funeral announcement on this forum. I had said that I was praying for peace and comfort for his family and friends and that he would be deeply missed by this community. The comment right after mine was you, mocking my support of religion and my "praying." You couldnt even muster enough respect for the deceased and let it go. You had to make sure everyone knew where you stood when it comes to religion. Not having the dignity to allow the deceased to have their commemorative post on this forum. Your lack of respect for others and others boundaries is what has pushed me away from consulting with you. I do not like you as a person, so I prefer to stay away from you. I dont typically ask you questions or ask for your advice on pages or forums, any longer. There was a time when I deeply respected you and valued your insight. You and your actions have removed my respect.

Shame your god doesn't make you are stronger person.  I liked it when either your politics or religiousness got you to type this comment. You really think any collectors with an interest in BDSM are  "DIRTY", but you still sell and trade with them?

You see my beliefs as weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth. I stand strong in my beliefs. I stand for what I believe in and I do not back down from opposition. I brings facts and truth to defend me. I called you out and I provided proof. Its a shame that my God didnt make you more intelligent. But, well...here we are. Continue to lob slings and arrows at me. In the end, they do nothing to harm me. I am well liked and well respected among collectors. I am recognized by others as knowledgeable and willing to help just about anyone out. I am pleased with who I am and couldnt ask for anything more. I am blessed.

Oh dear me , You have no facts which is why its called 'faith". You are not blessed as there is nothing to do the blessing. You don't get intelligence from a god, you get it from  the ability to process knowledge thru reason.  Religious belief has held back the advancement of human kind for ever. There is no truth in the god myth, nearly every culture has one (many different from yours). Every different god believer says that same nonsense. You are an atheist to all the other gods for the same reason I am atheist, Lack of evidence.  You suffer with the Argument from incredulity, also known as argument from personal incredulity, appeal to common sense, or the divine fallacy, is a fallacy in informal logic. Science saved your life, not a Indian medicine man or a god. (Remember you cannot get into heaven with tattoos.) Thanks again for the comedy, you made my day.

Mark was correct a while ago. You are simply a pathetic human being. I ask you to go away and leave my name out of your mouth. You dont comment to me and I will return the favor to you. Live your life. Be whatever you want to be. I will live mine. I will live my life as I see fit.

Sounds very "christian' of you. The terrorist who get 72 virgins also claim they are blessed, they use the same style of thinking. Are they wrong or right? Trump claimed god saved his life, when in fact, it would have been poor rifle training from an incompetent father figure as a logical explanation. Maybe it's you who need to pray for intelligence. Lets see how that pans out.  I have no issue you contacting me, I can talk about anything.  No god makes me strong, You are not standing strong and not appearing blessed.

Shit if I didn't have better things to do, you could teach me how to be a racist, you make it look so easy. "Handcuff Secrets for Magicians" by Dick Norman was the first book I ever had that was specifically about handcuffs. Pat (Norman) Cole, Dick's daughter, mailed me a copy of this photo back in 2004 along with an original clipping from "The Linking Ring" magazine advertising the book.  She'd read what I'd written about "Handcuff Secrets..." on my (vanished!) "Reardon's Restraints" cuff site and the book's importance to my lifelong interest in magic, Houdini, escapes, and cuffs.

She wrote: "This is a copy of a polaroid we have of Dad back in the 1950s with some of his collection. My son enlarged this with his computer. Dad made the cases they are displayed in so that they would close like luggage for storage or travel - he was very creative ~ Pat"

In one of the boxes, two sets of cuffs (second from the bottom, right hand side) are toys, right? Just added two sets of these last year. They are well made and kind of interesting. Metal, not plastic as today.

Yes, one of the two toy cuffs are like these Gardner Screw Company items from the 1920's.
Often identified as a "Dog's Head" toy cuff, these come on many different variations.
I have a rounded bow as shown in the above pic and flat bow.

Garner Screw was founded in 1923 and are still around. https://www.gardnerscrew.com/about.html

I find these toys interesting too.  The other cuff in the display is made by JP.

The JP toy cuffs came in a few variations as well.  Die cast (as in the collection picture) and in sheet metal as below.

Omnipotent One.  I am not sure of the context of your post.

Is it that chains/restraints(?) are revered in the church. (religious fallacy)

Or is it the absurdity of what some people think. Wesley AKA SBD suggests it absurd that a man has posted a toy set of cuff that he claims were used in his church that were used on unruly children there. There is no reason not to believe this if the man had witnessed it himself and there is not benefit from making up a story if it turned out to be not true.
The guy that posted his experience with the toy cuff is at least telling a story within the realm of reality.
What is absurd is when people arrogantly claim they are "blessed" at the same time people die in wildfires and plane crashed, suggesting that they are the chosen one for their deity's good graces.
It's funny to read the description of the chains in the link you provide. By "TRADITION" the chain are believed to be......... It would have more convincing if it said "It's FACT", but you cannot do that miracles and the supernatural. (Wesley) that's when you need FAITH. You really need faith to believe in nonsense, I prefer reason and logic.
Thanks for your post
