Interesting set of cuffs on eBay. I don’t think they are old but may be wrong. I remember seeing similar ones from India a few years ago but can not find the photos.
I have never seen them in any museum or private collection. They look quite crudely made and I am sure if Hiatt or any UK maker would have made a much neater job of the shackle.
What are your thoughts?

This is a very interesting set of cuffs.  I have not seen anything like them in any of the books and references material I have.  I don't think they are from India, the workmanship is too good in spite of the surface condition.  My guess is they are British and maybe mid 19th Century.

I saw these the other day. My initial take was they look odd somehow. I later realised why, because usual ones have a hinge on one side and a hinged lock which is smaller on the short side rather than a huge long lock tube like those. To me, they look "genuine" based on the design vibe I am picking up. But god knows what brand they might be. I don't feel like they are knockoffs though. I think they are an early model, before realising they could shorten the lock tube by designing it just a bit different.

Found a listing showing the same design cuff that sold in 2017. Still looking for the copies that were sold.

I would consider them authentic not based on 'vibes' but on the overall manufacture style and design shape, Angle of the hinge plate in relationship to the tube, the key, the joining of the two bows (in the middle)

Just hope GSP doesn't confiscate it. 
For me, the import charges was more than I could afford to bid.

Unluckily the cuffs were sent by Pitney Bowes, and of course they were stolen and never arrived at my place.
I am in contact with the seller and I hope he will engage a lawyer.

Hello Michael, welcome back! And so sorry about your loss.
It would have been great to examine and discuss them, even with photos.
Pitney Bowes is terrible; they exploit the legal void that exists between two countries. My guess is they will turn up in a couple of weeks, some guy claiming he got them at an auction. If you reach out to PB or Ebay, they all claim they are not responsible and know nothing about this issue. You might still have a chance if you act swiftly.

Does it have any stampings? And is it a real backstrap or a false? I cannot see it exactly.
I really hope that the seller takes appropriate legal action. Meanwhile I received my money back, but I'd rather get the cuff.

I am truely gutted for you.
It pays to make sure that GSP is not used by asking the seller if they will send them Royal Mail if you win. I believe the seller will keep his  money, so he has no need for a lawyer. I hate seeing such good cuffs being confiscated, but it was bound to happen.

I would also like to know more about the hinge construction on your cuff too. I assume from the age, its  forged but you will know for sure.

I wasn't able to make out any marks.
