Scammy Ebay Listing PSA

Somebody on ebay is trying to pull the wool over our eyes / pants down.

They have taken 2 long shackle chinese alarm padlocks and bolted them together to make a janky cuff.

Don't get me wrong - it's a fun and quirky idea, and tough to escape, but listing it as a chubb and wanting 208GBP for it is a massive scam

Part of me wants to. But another part of me is just annoyed that people are buying items that they have faked.

He's altered the listing now to make it slightly less scammy but it's still bad. And the renaming of his account to Coxy? just wtf... Why!?! Red flags everywhere on that account.

Hi Dave, Did you assemble these locks into a cuff some time ago, and now someone has copied your idea? Then this seller is advertising as Chubb? If this is your idea of a custom cuff, it's a good one. Having the keyhole to the side instead at the bottom made this possible. I have joined large shackle padlocks  together to form customised restraint for several escape artists but  joined shackle to shackle. You might find the unique curved keyholed cylinder of this Asian lock is an inline pin tumbler and not a typical dimpled key cylinder. The center piece is the blade of the key that is not high enough to have many increments of pin length.  

The idea for these has been on some BDSM / self bondage sites for some time. The seller just took that idea then made the big idea to sell for ludicrous mark up, and advertise as chubb.
I definitely am not a fan of their selling practices, They list 3D printed covers as "rare medical restraint" as well.

All round scammy seller.

Cheers, I thought it would have been one of your clever ideas. In this day and age, lies and misrepresentation is the new hallmark. 

Its definitely a clever idea. And a great 10 minute project.

It is definitely not worth 200 quid though. Maybe 30 to 40, but not 200. And the way they have been listed is super deceitful in my opinion.

I used M5 nut and bolt, 20mm length. I then filed 2mm off the shackle to make a reliable fit

If you are thinking of making more , you could use binder screws to obtain just a bit more room for the shackle. You  would have to cut the correct length of screw thread only and use two females from each side and some loctite.

That's definitely worth considering- great idea
