Jolly Box Lock

I've just come across this padlock in my files but cannot find any linked information to it. The padlock looks British made (overall shape, material and escutcheon) 

Looks a lot like an "ACE" or "Belfry" old English style padlock.
Cool looking lock - mega intresting inscription on the rear though

Thanks, Belfry was the brand I was thinking as I have one packed away but couldn't remember the name.  The inscription is either very factual or very comical.  A sign on a box of equipment would be better than inscribed on the back of as lock.

Don't think handcuffs were used while hanging someone. A leather strap was used on wrists and ankles.  https://collection.sciencemuseumgroup.o ... -1870-1888

According to the historical records at Old Melb Gaol (Australia) Handcuffs and shackles were used. 

If anybody doubts the cuckoo bird's fallacy of a purpose-built hangman's padlock, just remember the "purpose built slave shackles" with the engraved brass plaque. 

Besides, to add validity, I found a photo of a recent auction featuring the missing item from the fraudchest.  

...Almost forgot, that stuff is still made. By the original manufacturer no less!
