Looking for any information or input on a nipper / come along that I recently acquired. It’s solid brass and has no stampings other than a very small “S” stamped into it on each side. Many thanks, Ron J

What makes you believe it is a nipper? It seem impractical to use as one.

I’m glad you actually have no idea what I actually drive a delivery truck delivering. Also I’ve never posted anything on this forum where I was longed in as someone else.

I’ve seen many nipper that looked impractical to use as a nipper, yet they were made and used as one.

Looks interesting. I would be surprised if it weren't a nipper/come-along type device.

I was bidding on this but stopped after thinking about the size and shape of the area where the wrist would go. It looks very well made and I have a lot of nippers, but I don't think this is a nipper.   Maybe when you get it we will have better information.

Ron, assuming its a nipper is like someone claiming the creation story from the bible is true. So you have looked at and studied all other possiblities and settled on this !  It's a bit like MAGA Mark claiming the lilly iron keys which appear to have a H in the bow design are what Houdini had made. It's emotional thinking and not based on evidence or fact. Your assumed nipper seems to need two hands to operate before holding the two handles aligning to hold together.  For all we know it might be a handle for a lifting a fire hose full of water above sharp metal or hot metal.

Cuff of the day for may 3 houdini day

Here is a link to a discussion that keeps appearing by the mentally challenged, Idiot McColl-ostomy.
The main issue is the question of; Did Houdini make and/or order keys for the Lilly products.
The proof is in the pudding as there is a letter from the supplier (see attached blog) to Houdini which shows a complete 100% explanation that Lilly keys were bought and sold with Houdini having initiated the sale.

Only Idiot McColl-ostomy is in denial about this.
Is it that hard to imagine that Houdini would ask that the ordered keys have his initial on them?

In over 10 years or reading the debate over this, only the Idiot is still ranting about the "H" key and his bible studies.

GO AWAY Idiot McColl-ostomy!!!

In a discussion, it is poisoning the well by assuming or claiming that this item is a nipper. A honest opening sentence would be, "I just bought this and can anyone tell me what it is, I think it is a nipper"  It's the same as the Lilly keys. Making the claim doesn't make it true,  its just dishonest. Same happens with religious text and scriptures all the time. It is no different, just because people claim stuff, it does not make it true. We need objective evidence. Too often people want a good story to tell, or the comfort of a good story even when it is not true. People who have spent their hard earnt money don't want their precise new cuff not what they desire it to be.  I understand many American especially don't care for honesty and are willing to want to believe misinformation, disinformation and some times malinformation. Anything which upsets the emotional desires of a 'false' belief will be just written off as fake news.

Ron,
Thanks for the interesting topic!

I find it harder and harder to read interesting articles here as most content is so ridiculously stupid and uncalled for.
This is refreshing!

Your new item sure looked like an unknown nipper to me, but I noticed a couple things that changed my mind.
The oval shape seems similar to many French and German cuffs, which made me think that this could be a European nipper.
The rounded handles don't feature flat surfaces where they meet in the center when closed, which is odd for a nipper.
IF used for carrying pipes or other heavy items, it seems strange to have the hinge area bear the weight.  The hinge pin could break or get loose, and the load could drop. This device, if used for carrying objects should have more of a carabiner design where the bottom is curved to maximize its strength.

The size does look too big for a nipper and the hook that locks the two halves together does not seem like they lock in place like most nippers.

For my money, I would bet that they are like ice tongs and used for carrying some kind of bulky item which is not overly heavy.

I had hoped that you found some rare Italian Nipper or something.

I hope you haven't spent too much money on this item Ron Jones. I hope the seller had not misrepresented it by making a false claim that it was a nipper.  You saved MAGA Mark from a possible purchase and he says he thought it was one too (but then changed his mind)  Ron S, you certainly know your subject ! good call, you saved money on this one.

Interesting nipper you have there.  Look forward to hearing more about it.

On another note there is a way to ignore or aka block postings of certain people.  Maybe that will keep the pests away

It's not a nipper ! As an Ivermectin drinker and conspiracy theorist, I understand how you don't know one right thing from one wrong thing but Ronny J has already said, it is not a nipper.

Why does the USA breed the most cowardly and childish people? I know over 10 million still have drinking water delivered thru lead pipes and there is lots of interbreeding.  Posting SHIT is not mature  and only make you a hypocrite and annoyance to others.
>While inbreeding is incredibly taboo in the United States, it is somewhat legal in some states. While not widely practiced, first-cousin marriage is legal in 19 states, and some first-cousin marriages are legal in six states. Sexual relations and cohabitation are only prohibited in nine states. Approximately 0.2% of all marriages in the United States are between second cousins or closer. That means that there are about 250,000 Americans that are in these relationships.  <

extract from article posted above.
>>  Inbreeding is more common in the following states (in alphabetical order): Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Generally, inbreeding is more common in the southeast region of the U.S. and more rural states. Approximately 70% of inbred families live in desolate areas.
Inbreeding is common, specifically, in the eastern part of Kentucky, and the region is plagued by the stereotype that every family is an inbred family. While the stereotype is not entirely true, inbreeding rates are higher in eastern Kentucky than in any other part of the state. It is believed that this is partially because people have moved to the mountains in eastern Kentucky for the low cost of living and the lifestyle. Still, there are typically no other families living in these locations. The families that move there either don’t have the money to leave or do not want to leave, and the growing children typically inbreed to save their family name.
One family from Kentucky known for generations of inbreeding is the Fugate family. The Fugate family was relatively isolated from the rest of society for nearly 200 years. Their inbreeding led to several medical problems and recessive genes being passed down through each child, such as one that gave some of the offspring blue skin. The blue skin gene is a recessive gene that only appears when both parents are carriers of the gene. The inbreeding caused the recessive gene to appear in both parents.  <<

Hey Ron
I saw this for auction i thought it looked neat but I wasn’t convinced it was a nipper I mean it could be but i just dont know.  I recently bought an item that looked cool but probably isn’t very collectible….anyway if you find out either way please let me know. Thanks Michael

Even if not a nipper it is still an interesting item

I do not follow auctions very much. What other type items were in the auction?
perhaps associated lots can shed some light as to what it is

Is there a point during the closing of the handles that the round parts form an exact circle? also what are the exact measurements?

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Ron Jones AKA "The Economist"
I guess I wouldn't want to be embarrassed by spending so much on a NON nipper. Still don't know why they gave you the "handcuff expert" title.
Everything about that item said NOT a nipper. You could have asked. Even had MAGA Mark thinking it was "until he read posts" here that begged to differ.
