Ian I’d like to thank you for selling me these two Hiatt cap locks. They arrived yesterday and I wiped them down and cleaned them just a bit. I’m very pleased with both of them.

#5Hi Ron, you could have emailed but thank you for posting that they have arrived here at the forum. They certianly look a lot better cleaned. They were bought new from Hiatt some 45 years (?) ago and have hung on my workshop walls since. I had always planned to turn them into a small pair of darby cuffs but due to them being two different plated finnishes, I didn't. I will aim to find the origioanl Hiatt receipt and get a copy to you.

#7Ron, I will look for it. Most of my stuff is packed up but I thought I would look in one folder I knew was in the next room to me now. While it not about the end locks, this is a letter from Hiatt re: 2 x 'Figure eight' cuffs I bought from them. I really need to show this figure eight next to a regular figure but I sold them years ago. The cuff was odd as the side with lock was oversize, almost to the point where you could slip your wrist (but I couldn't) The other side with the hinge fitted a regular wrist snugly. The cuff just didn't look right to me , as a handcuff, so I wrote to Hiatt. Their letter suggests that thins version of Figure eight is to be used as a lockable come-along.

Ian, it seems I remember a post that you made about this. Maybe it wasn’t you but I believe it was it may have only been a comment. I’m not certain. Either way this is really good information.. Ron J

#9I think it was just a comment I made about this but not a copy of the letter. I wish I knew who bought the cuffs (a pair, one I gimmick, the other standard) I would like to see the shape again and get measurements from them.
