Locking antique Handcuffs from Italy (1750s-1850s?)

Hi everybody,
I picked up these antique cuffs from Italy. They came with a working key, most probably original. They can be stored / carried unlocked and just be locked by clicking them shut. The internal diameter is about 7.5 x 7cm (about 3 inches across). They are somewhat on the large side, but work. S&W for comparison. I'd date them 1750 to 1850, but I may be wrong. They work well and lock / unlock smoothly.

They appear to be a very nice set of restraints. Do you think they have ever been in service?

Hard to say. I guess they were not made as decoration.

I would not suggest that they were made for decoration. I was just curious if there was wear in the chain links, wear in the holes of the shacle where the chains attach. If there is none or little, it would make me consider they have not been used and still virually new  and unused since they were made so many years/centuries before.
