Polish handcuffs

Hello,

I've just added a pair of handcuffs from Poland to my collection. On some other websites they are called P.P.S.T. Does anyone knows what this stands for and if this is the brand name? The cuffs have a faint marking of what might well be PPST and also 03/80.

In my opinion these handcuffs appear to be an early Peerless handcuff. The markings you refer to could have been added at any date.

Definitely not an early Peerless (due to position & location of keyhole, shape of lockcase, etc.). They do closely resemble an unmarked handcuff in my collection that is a Japanese copy of the U.S. (Chicago) Darley handcuff: same vertical keyhole, 4-sided lockcase, identical chain & clevis, non-grooved bow.
However, I can't say for sure if the handcuffs in the photo are Polish, Darley-copies, or what. Anyone else?

This pair of handcuffs looks identical to a pair in my collection, which is marked "PPST" or "PPSI" and "12/84".
As far as I know, it has been made in Poland, but I don't know anything about the manufacturer or the meaning of PPST...

Hello,
I have seen and handled 2 examples of the identical looking cuffs before. One had no markings and one had an emblem stamped into the back side which was shaped like a small castle in a circle. Research by myself determined that this stamping was the mark of a German lock company which made padlocks and also obviously must made the cuffs as they bore this maker mark. Recently I saw an additional pair of these on German ebay. They too were denoted as being German in origin. Perhaps the cuff is not Polish but is in fact German? Check out German ebay and from time to time you may see the same cuff appear as I have. Just type handschellen into the search box. Hope this has been of some help. Regards, Steve Santini

I bought mine off a guy in Poland. He says they are Polish. To me this means that, at the very least, they were used by Polish police, even if they weren't manufactured there. Mine have PPST - 10/84 on the lock case of one of the cuffs.

Hello fellow collectors,

according to my information, this model was made in Poland. There is a newer version of Polish handcuffs which looks very similar (except of the non blind rivets) and is still produced there. I've two versions of these old Polish handcuffs in my collection. One is identical to the one from Cuffman. The other one is not blued (black) but nickel plated - please see picture. Both pieces are not marked at all.

I have a possible idea what could these emblems mean, not all of old Polish handcuffs have this signature, the marks aren't too legibly made, note also that the mark "PPST" is almost always with date wich tells the year and month, for me, it doesn't look like it could be a fabric-made signature, much more it looks like it was made on some technical inspection.
My possible ideas of the meaning of the "PPST" is "przeprowadzono próbê sprawno¶ci technicznej" wich means "technicall test have been carried out".
