today I want to show you some curiosities. Sometimes I really wish that my cuffs could talk, because these three examples have surely interesting stories to tell.
On picture 1 you can see a Frogatt Figure 8, picture 2 shows a W.F Darby. Both vintage English restraints show several marks, which were surely caused by hitting the restraint multiply against a hard object. I guess this was done by prisoners, who were restraint with these cuffs. Both attempts had surely been without success, because as far as I know, it's indeed possible to open a Darby by knocking it against a hard object and simultaneously pressing the fettered hands against the lock-tubes, but ONLY when you use the opposite side, the side where the key is inserted into the lock. Knocking the cuff on the side where the tube-cap is, should have no effect on the spring loaded bolt. And there are no marks on the other side of both handcuffs.
On picture 3 you can see a part of the chain of my H&R Bean Cobb Leg Irons. One of the links has been scribed perhaps by a kind of file or saw, but with very less success, because the cut is only about 1 mm deep.
Does anyone have restraints with similar marks of former escape attempts?
