Hi, I wouldn't use the cuff for active service if that is what you are thinking. The cuffs are beautiful in my opinion, the best looking cuff of all of Peerless's. But the cuff is sintered steel and fractures very easily.I was doing a search online trying to get my hands on a pair of Peerless model 400 handcuffs. I was doing a warrant pickup awhile back and one of the officers had them and I really liked them....only problem is that they stopped making them back in 1998 (according to Peerless). Pssstt Ian, pick up a pair of Smith model 100's made in Houlton, ME....sintered and carbon steel content. The model 400's I have carried daily since '98 have been thrown, kicked, dropped repeatedly, used as an impact weapon, and ran over by a Police Special Harley (don't ask) and have no sign of fractures, the scuffs even buffed right out. I have no problem recommending them for duty use, they are too good a cuff to be sitting in a showcase instead of being used. I do have 5 pairs that do exactly that though. Sorry, folks, my mistake. It's the S&W model 91's that are on auction on eBay, not the 400's. My brain isn't working too well today. But the model 91's are a nice set of cuffs. Hi Tim1, When I got my pair, I was discussing the pro and cons with Steve Santini. Steve had several pair and offer me another. He claimed that they were brittle after tests he had done himself. On receieving the second sent by Steve. I interlocked one bow into the frmae of the other cuff and flexed it. (note this was not with my wrists inside, just free hand) one cuff shattered have the lock case down the frame and half of the hinge area. The most likely reason the cuffs were withdrawn is that sintering is strong in all directions.I was doing a search online trying to get my hands on a pair of Peerless model 400 handcuffs.
