Magnetic Restraints in China

Just received a reply from the factory, other than the magnetic handcuffs, they also have the leg irons.

The following is the description from the factory:

Stainless steel magcard shackle and anklet are the hi-tech patent products researched and developed by our company. Its novel design, unique design, performances of magnetic force opening, mechanical locking, and theftproof are initially developed in China. It is also used by U.N. Peace Maintenance Troop. The product is divided to two series: ordinary type and light type. It is made of stainless steel, with graceful shape, firm quality, elaborate workmanship, stable performance, and no rusting. It has passed the inspection by Inspection Center of Public Security Ministry, and has become a new generation of police shackle.

Who is the "factory"? What is the name of the manufacturer? Do they have a website?

Difficult question to answer. What you need to understand is the amount of time and effort that goes into locating various suppliers of handcuffs etc. I remember back in 1976 when I set up 'Fetters' with Maurice Stewart the amount of time spent in the library, writing to various government agencies etc simply to find the addresse of companies such as Clejuso, Rivolier and Horst-Stein.
Life nowadays is a little easier with internet searches where many addresses can be found in minutes. I do have to take my hat off to collectors such as Stan Willis and Howard Chan who must spend hours writing letters to locate the smaller manufacturers who do not have web sites.
Certainly if I knew the address I would keep it to myself. Over the past 30 years there have been a lot of changes. In my early days there was no way I would let fellow collectors even know the name of my collectors friends let alone their address. Forums like this have meant that our 'secret' contacts/collectors can no longer be kept quiet. 30 years ago I would have been worried but over the past few years I have met and corresponded with many 'old' collectors that I did know of and the benefits far exceed the secrecy that existed in the 1970's

I'm not looking for "trade secrets or proprietary info." I'm just interested in checking out the cuff - see what it looks like, the technology/logic behind it, if it would be worth owning/escaping from, etc. Curiosity, challenge....nothing more.

Also, the thread starter referred to a manufacturer, not a supplier. Wouldn't they want to sell their wares? He posted 2 pics (since expired), so he prolly wasn't overly concerned, eh?
