#1Dear US collectors (and others),
Please find below the email I just sent to all European collectors I know (and some of you non EU-guys out there I have in my address book).
Please let me have your thoughts...
Dear European fellow-collectors,
We all have been reading about the annual 'Cannon's escape convention' in the USA for some years in a row now (the next one is just a few weeks in the future) and unfortunately for me, I have never been able to attend to it myself (which I hope to change during one of the next few years). As this annual US-gathering made me rather jealous of all our collector-friends over there in the States, I got the idea to get us European collectors together in a one time (or hopefully also annual) European event (of course, this doesn't mean that the Americans are not invited!). As probably all of you did, I have dealt with a lot of you fellow collectors from all over Europe through the internet for some time now but I as I have only been able to meet just a few of you in person, it would be nice to finally get to meet the others, even if it was just for this one time. This is the whole idea about my plan so just as a little warning in advance to some of you (you guys know who I'm talking about): there really is no need to compare the number of items in our collections or to show off in any other way! You can keep doing that on the internet through the appropriate forums if you want to This being said, I hope we can have a constructive conversation about this little plan of mine and I really hope that we all can get this thing to work out fine.
This being said, I would like to hear from all of you whether you would be interested to attend to such a meeting or not and if so, how you would like to see this thing being put together. It is definitely NOT my intention to make any money out of this but as I live in Belgium (which is supposed to be the geographical centre of Europe), I believe this is the easiest and least-expensive place to organise something like this. If any of you have an easier way to put a thing like this together in your own country, please feel free to contact me or organise it yourself because I really have no clue how to plan and organise an event like this but I want to make this work. I do hope your suggestions will put me on the right track but any real help would also be appreciated.
When re-reading my own mail, I just discovered I can sound like a really boring guy but that definitely wasn't my intention so please excuse me for my that one . I would like to get our gathering together somewhere in May or June 2006 so we have plenty of time to get things on the tracks and we even won't get in the way of next year's US convention.
I am sending this mail to a bcc address-list (except maybe for the US addresses I included) because I don't know if any of you folks have any trouble with one another (which I expect you do) but I really hope we can leave those possible quarrels behind us for this gathering.
