Hello,
I welcome any information about Hiatt spurs, as in "spurs, not handcuffs". Neither the chairman of nor the historian at Hiatts are aware Hiatt ever made spurs, yet Hiatt indeed did produce them. If anyone has light to shed on the subject, please shine it this way.
Cheers,
Jack
Dear Joe,
In puzzling over the initials on the top pair of spurs, the closest I got was British Rugby Followers Association. Although an actual organisation, I think it not close enough, and puzzling is what I am trying to avoid.
The only thing about which I am sure is that the marks are genuine. Each pair came from a different, unrelated source at a different time. And, B.R.F.A. is not the same as SOLID NICKEL. What you probably can not see in the inset image of the marks is that there is a 3-digit number, which is different on each spur of the first pair. All told, and in conjunction with the clarity of the markings, this would have been a massive amount of work to place multiple, varied fake marks on the most difficult, least accessible area of two (or however-many) pairs of spurs, one pair with and one pair without heel spikes.
In the BIRM
M mark, the trailing M is not truly underscored. That is more a short dash, which I can not recreate with HTML, much the same way Company is abbreviated as C
o or C
O, a common practise.
It certainly is possible Hiatt never put its spurs on the commercial consumer market, yet that goes back to puzzling. I have speculated enough, all to no avail. What I need are clues. (I don't care much for being clueless!)
If you come across anything else, feel free to post it.
Cheers,
Jack
