Cynthia my dear, the cuffs you refer to are worth about $50.00-US. I would be willing to give you $55.00 for them....that's more than fair...(wink). What is it with all of these women wanting to know how much all of these antique cuffs are worth??? And how is it that they know WHAT they have but don't know what they are worth??? Sounds like someone is board and is trying to mess with us....and I think I know who it is. How about it "CYNTHIA", sell me your "Palmers"....$55.00 in US funds....not Canadian money.....US money. Palmer cuffs are quite rare. A nice pair with good markings is worth at least $500 and might go considerably higher at auction.

Note to the regulars. It is very common for people to ask for the value of a pair of cuffs. I get such emails every day. Quite often they have correctly identified the cuffs using the handcuff gallery on this site or one of the other many fine web sites. Knowing value is very different than knowing which cuff it is.

Joe - Thank you for the info and idea of value. The pictures in the gallery are super and extremely well organized something not often found on the web. It did help me ID the cuffs quickly and easily.

Michael I really had a good laugh this morning. Most of the items I have are militaria so I am used to, ummm well, how shall I say, a bit of initial "resistance" b/c I am woman treading in the domain of men. However this doesn't not normally last long as I am eloquent and charming <snicker>
To answer your question I was able to ID both sets of handcuffs with my amazing psychic abilities and divinations including runes and tarot. The names and dates being clearly stamped on them helped only a tiny bit.

You are partially correct that we do know each other!! I am AMAZED you still remember me from London in 1682. Very very sorry over that silly misunderstanding that lead to your early exit from that life, but come to think of it that unfortunate event may have something to do with your current interest in restraints ...but I digress<grin> ...I do so hope all is forgiven

I -- of all persons, but then there is no accounting for taste -- often get direct enquiries regarding both historical details and value through my Web site, which is modest at best. Usually persons e-mail me, yet not infrequently they telephone me. I often refer them to other collectors, as some Forum participants know.

In a small, specialised, basically niche field like restraints collecting, there is not an abundance of resources on the Web, especially when it comes to detailed information as opposed to pictures only.

Whilst many persons want to know only about the item or two they have, others are just as interested -- or, when treated decently, may become just as interested -- in the general field. Either way, everyone starts somewhere, and that somewhere tends to be closer to than farther from point zero. I try keeping that in mind when I reply to persons who have taken the time, presumably in good faith, to contact me.

On balance, any reasonable assessment would rank the Forum at the top of the list of Internet resources for restraint collecting, particularly for novices or beginners. Any question posed by someone sincerely seeking knowledge is a good question, and deserves respect.
